QSDS Spreadsheet Template for MS Excel
by Craig Berry

Info for released alpha QSD15A01.XLT (1997/3/3)

---

This spreadsheet follows precisely the QSDS 1.5 specification,
with the following exceptions and limitations:

* All components are assumed to be at the same TL. Only TLs
  9-12 are supported.

* A maximum of three power plants may be installed.

* Only one weapon class from each table may be installed, with
civilian and military turret/barbette lasers treated as a
  single table.

* External grapples cause the effective hull size for drive
calculations to be the base hull size plus the total size
  of all grappled craft.

Areas to be filled in on the spreadsheet are yellow. All are
on the first worksheet, labeled 'QSDS'. The resulting USP is
generated on the second worksheet ('USP'), suitable for output
as a formatted text file using "Save As..." from the File menu.
All the other worksheets are data tables, mostly lifted bodily
from QSDS.

The template contains a sample design for a 100-Std ("standard
displacement ton") Scout, intended as an example; you can create
new designs by changing the values for this sample design.

Most of the input fields are self-explanatory, but each is
briefly explained here.

Input Fields:

Nm/Type Name and type (freeform)
TL Tech level (9-12)
Size Hull size (100-5000, from QSDS hulls table)
Config Configuration, (text, from hulls table)
Jump Jump performance (0-6)
J Range Jump range (0+, governs jump fuel tankage,
                  typically equal to 'Jump')
Maneuver	Maneuver Gs (0-6)
G Hrs Maneuver G-hours of fuel (0+, if this val > 0
or TL < 12, HEPlaR drive is used)
Controls Controls type (text: 'civilian' or 'military')
Sensors Sensor type (text: 'basic', 'improved', 'small
                  military', 'medium military')
Comm Comm type (text: 'basic', 'improved', 'advanced')
Fuel Pfy Fuel purifier. There are 5 purifiers listed for
                  each TL in QSDS.  A 0 here means no purifier;
1-5 selects a model number from that TL.
PPlant A Power plant A output (0+, from powerplants table)
PPlant B Power plant B output (0+, from powerplants table)
PPlant C Power plant C output (0+, from powerplants table)
Dura (yr)	Duration of power plant in years; determines
                  p-plant fuel (0+)

Crew entries:
Choose the number of small craft crew, troops, stewards, and
medics, and the number of workstations required by the 'Special'
free-format entry crew positions below.
In the 'real crew' box just below this, you can provide an
override crew count total (like 1 or 2) for ships <= 200 tons.

Weapon entries:
For each weapon/defense, choose a count of installed batteries.
For non-bay lasers, select Civilian (C) or Military (M) and a
weapons-per-battery count. For lasers and PA guns, choose a model
code (for both wpb and model codes, see the 'Weapons' sheet, which
basically reiterates the QSDS entries with added model codes to
disambiguate choices).
The 'count' for meson screens is the desired protection factor.

Craft entries:
Only one size of craft can be carried in each of minimal and
spacious hangars and external grapples, though any number of each
of these (of identical size) can be specified. So, for example,
a ship might have 5 20-ton minimal hangars, one 50-ton spacious
hangar, and two 80-ton external grapples -- but *not* one 30-ton
and one 50-ton minimal hangar.

Special entries:
Anything not covered by QSDS can be inserted here. It's your
responsiblity to cover this stuff on the USP, however.

Quarters entries:
Choose the accomodations you desire. You'll be warned if the
sum of bunks, small staterooms, and large staterooms is less than
the crew size.

Facilities entries:
Select facilities desired. Per QSDS, each sickbay is two beds.
