Heinkel He 162a "Salamander" ("Volksjager")

The He 162a was one of Germany's production fighters from late in World War
II. The fighter was a single engine jet fighter, carrying either 2 30mm or 2
20mm cannon. It was designed to be cheap, easy to fly, and easy to maintain.
As with the rest of the German jet fleet, it was to late to change the results
of the air war.

The real He-162a is slower (a top speed of 840 kph), and it's engine, the
BMW 003 E-1, produced less thrust (.789 tons). Using FF&S, and the actual
engine, you get a top speed of 1025 kph which is still higher than the
actual speeds achieved. The actual aircraft had an endurance (at top speed)
of about 30 min. at sea level, so the FF&S version is also much more fuel
efficient.

TL-6 was selected for the aircraft because FF&S lists several of it's
important features at that tech level. Notably, the required airframe
(because of the 840 kph top speed) and the ejection seat. TL-6 was listed
as C. 1950, and that is about the equivalent level at which the majority of
the German equipment from the last years of the war performed.

Having no good data on the armament, other than bore, the 3L60 was chosen to
simplify design. 60 calibre is the standard portrayed in the table. APDS ammo
was chosen to enhance the pentration of the gun, which was very poor. The ammo
was available at this time, and was in use in armored divisions. The plane
most likely used standard AP rounds, which would produce a penetration of
2- 2- 3.
